ASH MAYFAIR (PHUONG ANH NGUYEN) was awarded $25,000 in support of the narrative project The Third Wife. In 19th century rural Vietnam, 14 year-old May is given away in an arranged marriage and becomes the third wife to her older husband, a man brought up to believe that power is about control. In this tale of lost love and hidden desire inspired by a true story, we see through the eyes of a girl forced to grow too quickly into a woman.

Media Impact Funders received $1,000 to support membership for the Foundation.

Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, as fiscal sponsor for Minnesota Citizens for the Arts, received $10,000 to support membership for the Foundation.

Albert Milgrom, Minnesota, received $25,000 to support Rediscovering John Berryman, a documentary telling the story of a troubled genius who found notoriety as a leading 20th century American poet who is just now being rediscovered by a new generation after his nationally honored mid-century reputation had gone into decline.

Milkweed Editions, Minneapolis, Minnesota, received $46,000 over two years to support the publication of six books by emerging authors from New York City or Minnesota in 2017 and 2018.

Minneapolis College of Art and Design received  $220,000 ($110,000 per year for two years) to support the 2016-17 and 2017-18 MCAD-Jerome Foundation Fellowships for Emerging Artists.

Minnesota Center for Book Arts received $48,000 ($24,000 per year for two years) to support the Jerome/MCBA Book Arts Mentorship VI in 2016-17 and Book Arts Fellowship XIV in 2017-18, providing a minimum of $2,000 to each of six mentees;  three $5,000 fellowships; free membership to MCBA; studio equipment and use; and a culminating exhibition.

Minnesota Council on Foundations received $7,600 ($7,075 grant / $525 admin) to support membership for the Foundation.

Virginia Mohler, New York City, received $30,000 to support the production of Radium Girls, a narrative feature based on a true story set in 1927, that follows the Cavallo sisters, Bessie (19 yrs) and Jo (21 yrs), who paint glow-in-the-dark watch dials at the American Radium Factory.

The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts received $40,000 to support the participation of emerging choreographers in Momentum: New Dance Works Festival in 2017.

Movement Research received $60,000 ($30,000 per year for two years) to support emerging New York City choreographers in the creation and development of new work through the Artist-In-Residence Program.

Rachelle Mozman, New York City, received $9,645 To support the production of Opaque Mirror, a 15-minute experimental film based on Mozman’s fantasies of the short time Paul Gauguin travelled to Panama.

Mu Performing Arts received $75,000 ($25,000 per year for three years) to support the development and production of new works by May Lee-Yang and Qui Nguyen.

Karĩ Mugo, Minnesota, received $5,000 to travel to Nairobi and South Africa to embark on a storytelling project exploring the experiences and memories of the children of Africa in the 21st century.

Nautilus Music-Theater, Saint Paul, Minnesota, received $40,000 over two years in support of two Composer-Librettist Studio and two years of Rough Cuts Commissioning projects for emerging artists.

New Dramatists received $84,000 ($42,000 per year for two years) to support the Playwrights Lab.

New York Theatre Workshop received $40,000 ($20,000 per year for two years) to support New York City-based emerging artists in New York Theatre Workshop’s Artist’s Workshop.

Northern Clay Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota, received $54,200 over two years in support of the Jerome Ceramic Artists Projects grant program.
