The Jerome Foundation has provided general operating and program support to the CENTER FOR ARTS CRITICISM , Minneapolis, Minnesota, since 1984, the first year of the Centers existence. In support of a 12-month period beginning in the summer of 1997, the Jerome Foundation authorized a provisional grant of $12,600 to the Center in general support of its programming. The Centers mission is to promote the critical discussion of art and culture, and to increase the quantity, quality and diversity of arts criticism. In addition to its continuing work with experienced critics, the Center also nurtures emerging critics to comment on diverse art forms, works with artists to develop their critical writing skills, and teaches young people to incorporate critical thinking as part of their everyday lives. The Center sees itself as a catalyst which brings members of many communities with diverse points of view to the production, discussion and understanding of culture. It carries out its mission through workshops, public discussions, publications, school programs and co-sponsorships.
